About

Computation, guided by biology.

I’m Wei-Hao Lee, a PhD student at Rice University developing interpretable methods for single-cell, epigenomic, and cancer data.

Originally from Taiwan, I’m currently pursuing my PhD in Synthetic, Physical, and Systems Biology at Rice University, advised by Dr. Vicky Yao.

My research focuses on developing bioinformatics methods for single-cell, epigenomic, and cancer genomic data, including DNA methylation and mutation analysis. A central theme of my work is making computational results more interpretable and better aligned with the biological mechanisms behind them.

I enjoy building flexible, customizable tools that let me tailor models to specific biological questions. I’m also drawn to ideas from other fields—such as dynamical systems—that can offer new ways to understand complex biological data.

Outside academia, I enjoy playing badminton, hiking, photography, and exploring food from different cultures.
